Few people will be surprised to learn that the British weather can be a little unpredictable at times. High winds and driving rain can be challenging for older roofs in particular and loose or broken tiles can often be the result of stormy weather. That’s why it makes sense to have your roof inspected every few years or so to ensure that it is still fully watertight as leaving loose or broken tiles unchecked will be a more expensive problem to fix later on especially if water is seeping into your home and starting to rot roof battens, felt lining, supports or worse still, damp problems within the property itself. Avon Home Improvements of Bournemouth recommend roof inspections at least every five years or so for older properties with original roofs that have not been regularly maintained. We offer a full range of roof repairs including batten and felt underlay replacement, replacing broken or missing tiles including ridge tiles. We also install ridge tiles using the dry ridge system where the tiles are locked in place with dry ridge fixings making them more secure than using mortar which over time flakes and crumbles. We work thoughout Dorset and neighbouring areas of Hampshire. Call 01202 069923 today for a free no-obligation quote.
We recommend every few years or so, certainly no more than 5 year intervals. The weather is becoming increasingly challenging so the older your roof, the more susceptible it is to damage from high winds and driving rain. Call 01202 069923 for details.
Yes. We offer free roof and chimney inspections for homeowners living in older properties throughout Dorset and neighbouring areas of Hampshire. Our trusted roofers will only recommend repair work which needs to be carried out. Call 01202 069923 for details.
It all depends on whether they are still serviceable. We have, for example replaced the felt underlay and battens holding the roof tiles on and relayed the existing roof tiles where the property owner has asked us to and where the tiles are still in good condition. However, if a roof has reached the end of its serviceable life, we would always recommend full roof replacement.
Below: This project started out as a chimney removal due to water ingress. However it soon became apparent that further works were needed due to damage to the valley and underlay. Scaffolding was erected, the damaged section of roof stripped and new breathable roofing membrane installed.
New GRP fibreglass hidden roof valley was also installed as well as new graded and treated roof battens before the original tiles were relaid.
